One of the great things about the southe of Michigan area for music is music ranges from question

mark in the Mysterians to Grant Green to Madonna to my guest, Glenn Fry, who has a new album out,

a collection of standards called After Hours.

The song is also featured on that collection.

Glenn, first of all, thanks so much for being here.

Good to be here with a fellow Detroiter.

Absolutely.

And this is something before we started to talk about the music a little bit,

before the new album, After Hours.

What do you think accounts for all that kind of interesting diversity of music?

Because the time you were coming up,

you were probably hearing some of the songs like The Good Life and Shadow Your Smile as a kid in Detroit.

Well, I was, you know, although I probably didn't appreciate them as much at the time.

You know, now that I'm a songwriter, I really understand how great that work was.

But, you know, when I grew up, you know, Motown was king,

and that was combined with the British invasion. So we had all of the Terry Knight, you know,

CKLW type radio stations that, you know, that were playing everything, the Beatles and all the British

bands. But we also got every Motown record.

Even the ones that weren't, you know, major hits got played in Detroit.

So, you know, there was that element as well.
