Yes, yes, the film's a mystery, but you know what the real mystery to me is? How the heck

0:04.0

Ryan Johnson gets all of his notes collated out of his handwritten notebooks and so perfectly

0:09.4

into his screenplays? Howdy? I'm Jeff Goldsmith, and this is the Q&A. My agenda is simple. Each

0:15.0

week I plan to bring you in-depth insight into the creative process of storytelling. And folks,

0:19.9

I love Glass Onion. This is a great

0:21.8

flick. And I'm not joking, man, even though we talk about it in this interview, maybe it's just

0:28.0

because I'm such a disorganized person. And for my own writing and for anything I'm doing,

0:33.3

actually, handwritten notes have always been a killer and Ryan Johnson fills up entire journals

0:39.5

as you'll hear us discuss and we kind of get a little into the subconscious about what goes

0:45.3

into the journal and how your mind interprets seeing you write that down and then later having

0:51.5

your memory call it back when you're writing your script. So it's an

0:55.7

interesting process, and I was really glad that we got to geek out and talk about it. You know,

0:59.8

it's so cool if you watch the Zoom video of this on the Backstory Magazine YouTube page,

1:04.2

at one point, Ryan grabs one of his journals and starts flipping through it and showing pages

1:09.1

to the camera. And it was a cool enough

1:11.0

moment that we talked afterwards. And here's the good news. Ryan Johnson was kind enough to supply

1:15.6

us with an exclusive image that we could use of the backstory site so that you could take a peek

1:20.5

into the first half of his handwritten outline for Glass Onion. You'll also be able to read

1:26.4

the screenplay in its entirety through our website,

1:29.5

courtesy of Netflix. And if you really want to go for it, and I hope you do, Associate Editor Danny

1:34.4

Manso interviewed Ryan for an article in Backstory Magazine using a completely different set of

1:39.9

questions from this podcast. So you could get even further insight by becoming a subscriber.
