Are you not entertained?

Well, you will be this week as the Wizard and the Bruiser teaches you all about

Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott in the year 2000.

The general who became a slave, the slave who became a gladiator, the gladiator who defied an emperor.

Striking story.

But now the people want to know how the story ends.

And it ends with me becoming sad

Joker. Nobody knows the trouble I've seen. He's purposely singing badly because there's a

disdain from the director for the audience. Well, I'm glad Quentin Tarantino liked the Joker's

sequel. But we're not here to talk about that, damn it.

We're here to talk about walking Phoenix when he was fun to watch on a screen.

And drunk.

And drunk in the Gladiator.

Yeah, a lot of, it seems like a lot of drinking was involved in the creation of this filmic experience.

So obviously we're doing this movie because the sequel, Gladiator 2, is right

around the corner.

And it almost feels like surreal that this is happening because already Gladiator was this

like anachronism in a kind of way, a kind of blast from the past in Hollywood's historical epic tradition.

You know, Spartacus, Ben Hur, the Ten Commandments, the Sword and Sandal genre that had carried

Hollywood for so many years that by the time 2000 came around, Stephen Spielberg had pretty

much killed the historical epic.
