0:13.1	The poem that I'm going to read today is a poem that I discovered when reading or researching
0:17.8	poem that I read a couple days ago by Gertrude Schnackenberg. And this particular poem
0:23.6	is Advent Calendar. And today is St. Nicholas Day. It's December 6th. So that makes it St. Nicholas
0:29.2	Day. And it seems about the right time to start bringing in a Christmas poem here or there.
0:35.7	I don't believe I read this one last year.
0:41.9	So while I will repeat a few poems that just are right for the season over the next three weeks or so,
0:44.7	this is one that I haven't done yet and it seems like a good one to kick off the season with.
0:48.6	It's a little bit longer, but I was really intrigued by it,
0:51.4	and I thought you might like it.
0:53.2	This is how it goes.
0:55.5	Advent calendar.
0:59.8	Besselham in Germany.
1:04.8	Glitter on the sloping roofs, breadcrumbs on the windowsills,
1:12.8	candles in the Christmas trees, hathes with pairs of empty shoes, panels of nativity, open paper scenes where doors open into other scenes, some recounted, some foretold.
1:18.2	Blizzard sprinkled flakes of gold gleam from small interiors, picture boxes in the stars
1:23.1	open up like cupboard doors in a cabinet Jesus builds.
1:27.9	Southern German villagers, peasants in the micafrost,
1:31.3	see the comet streaming down.
1:33.2	Heavenly faces, each alone, faces lifted, startled, lost, as if lightning with the town.
