7.23am just woken up in a little village at the end of a dead valley,

high, high up in the valley daosta.

Immediate impressions, recollections of a strange dream. Once again, I think, for almost the third night in a row,

can't seem to dream anything that isn't loosely related to the bike race.

The bike race, this definitely was, I think, is almost like a preview of today's stage,

but in a really weird way.

It started off, I suppose, relatively normal.

There was a Swiss

rider Janis Foizar because we're not that far from Switzerland here or indeed France

come to that a bit later but Swiss rider is determinedly off the front built up this

big lead a 50 minute lead at one point,

and all on his own, in a solo breakaway, and he got to the final kind of climb up to this

little finish, and he was wearing the Swiss National Champions jersey. He isn't, by the way,

the Swiss national champion.
