Welcome to the first episode of Gilmore to Watch: a new segment where we explore stories in the film and television medium filled to the brim with similar tropes, storylines, and energy that will satisfy the itch between rewatches of your favorite comfort show <3
For our inaugural episode, Tara sits down with Sarah Lampert, creator and executive producer of Netflix's Ginny and Georgia, a series that centers around the mother-daughter relationship between young Georgia Miller and her teenage daughter Ginny, to a very small, very picturesque New England town to start a new life. Georgia quickly catches the eye of the local restaurant owner, while Ginny immediately falls for the brooding bad boy across the street. But beneath the surface of Georgia's quick-wit and million-dollar smile are secrets she and her family can only run from for so long; especially in the tiny little Hamlet of Wellsbury, Massachusetts where everyone knows each other's business.
Social media and Gilmore Girls fans were quick to compare this premise to the original mother-daughter duo we all know and love, but where many tropes, parallels, and sentiments coexist between the two series, there are many vast differences; and we're here to talk about them all! We're dying to know...did Sarah grow up watching Gilmore Girls? How does she feel about the comparisons? And what role did Gilmore Girls play in landing her show in front of the execs at Netflix? Grab a cup of coffee and get comfortable besties, this is a fun one!!!!
