Gilgo Beach, putting together the 4th indictment Maureen Brainyard Barnes When Rex Heuermann was arrested and charged in July as the Gilgo Beach serial killer, prosecutors outlined a narrative against him that his defense lawyer, Michael Brown, attacked as cherry-picked and DNA evidence that Mr. Brown derided as shaky. Mr. Heuermann, 60, had been charged with murdering three of the so-called Gilgo Four, a quartet of women who in 2010 were found bound with burlap, belts and tape on the Long Island oceanfront. Prosecutors said they were awaiting the DNA testing they needed to charge him in the killing of the fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25, of Norwich, Conn. But when those charges finally came on Tuesday, just over six months later, prosecutors used the occasion to deliver their version of a knockout punch in the case. In addition to charging Mr. Heuermann with second-degree murder in court, they filed an extensive outline of an updated, ratcheted-up case that seemed to stun the normally agile Mr. Brown. 0:20.5	So some goings on today in the Gilgo Beach case, as promised in July, when the arrest
0:27.9	of Rex Yulman occurred as the Gilgo Beach serial killer, we were promised on that date
0:34.5	by District Attorney Ray Tierney that they had a fourth case impending
0:39.7	that wouldn't would be indicted in short order once they had the necessary DNA evidence
0:48.4	mitochondrial and nuclear DNA evidence that gave them enough evidence to present to the grand jury to get
0:55.8	the fourth indictment of the Gilgo Beach for as they became known as, and of course, put it on
1:01.6	the screen. Maureen Brainer Barnes, the case was just added today, the indictment.
1:08.2	Megan Waterman, Melissa Bartellame, and Ambelin Costello.
1:12.9	And we're going to bring you this case today because there are some new things going on.
1:17.4	And we know this case has been an infamous case in the history of serial killers and also in the
1:23.4	history of Suffolk County, Long Island. As so many twists and turns have occurred with this
1:29.6	case, the case languished for 12 years with very little happening until the task force was formed
1:37.2	and then things started to happen. And we credit recently resigned police commissioner Rodney Harrison, of course, a former NYPD,
1:47.8	chief of department, chief of detectives, and of course give credit to district attorney Ray Tierney
1:53.1	and the task force that they started involving the Suffolk County detectives, the FBI,
2:03.9	the state police, the Suffolk County detectives, the FBI, the state police, the Suffolk County jail personnel that have their own investigative unit, and of course, the Suffolk County District
2:10.7	Attorney's Office own investigators. So with a team like that, it's understandable now why they got such great results from this case.
2:21.2	And we're going to do a dive into this today.
