Welcome back. It's the big blue banter, New York Giants football podcast. I'm Dan Schneier joined so. It's my coach, Nick Bellato. Today we're here to talk about more top 30 private visits. They're very important. The Giants are spending time on these players. They could end up being the draft picks. If you look through the history of Joe Shane, a lot of the players we brought in for top 30 visits were ultimately drafted by the Giants.

0:54.6

They will focus on three wide receivers, the number, the one, two, and three receiver the Giants have to interview through this process so far and brought in. Trigging players. Before we do that, no, Nick, we do have to touch on the news of the day. It's Wednesday when we're recording this. This will drop Thursday, though. on Tuesday evening, Ian Rappaport reported that the Giants and Dexter Lawrence are at an impasse with these contract negotiations. Since then, we've kind of heard the Giants are kind of settling somewhere in closer to wanting to paying close to 20 million a year. And Dex wants that $30 million a year close to resetting the market, if not resetting the market. And the Giants look at it like, look, you've got two years left on your deal. You came off a down year.

1:30.9

Why are we going to let you? close to resetting the market, if not resetting the market. And the Giants look at it like, look, you've got two years left on your deal.

1:29.5

You came off a down year. Why are we going to let you reset the market? Dex is looking at it like, I deserve to be paid. I should have been paid. And this is just what happens. You get paid. I'm more important to your team than just what I did on tape in 2025. I'm important based on what I didn't take in 2024, my leadership, what I mean for your future with Arbaugh.

1:47.0

So they're at an impasse. And according to Rappaport, Nick, first we heard of this, the Giants may have to entertain some trade offers. And I don't know where this thing is going for sure now. Neither do I. It's some murky water right now. If you asked me yesterday, and I think we talked about it on the show, it was, hey, you know, I think they'll get a deal done now with this report from rap. I'm sitting here like, geez, I have no, I don't really have a read on it. I don't know if, I don't know if, uh, I don't know if Dexter Lawrence's camp soured on the New York Giants. And if it's that big of a difference, we're talking about like a multi-million dollar difference here, not just like one or two, like eight, 10 million

2:21.8

dollars. If trade is an option and there's a team like, let's say the Texans or a team that

2:27.5

can really use Dexter Lawrence who has multiple second round picks, maybe the giants will entertain

2:33.3

that. Now, the thing is, I think the Giants need to really exhaust every option and make sure they get the most value if they decide to trade them because again, Dexter Lawrence is under contract for the next two years. This isn't like the Giants do have leverage here. You need to get a lot for this player. I don't want this to be like, oh, we're just going to get a second and a third for him. No, like this is still somebody who I believe could be a top defensive line in the league. I hope ultimately they just get this done, use void years, get creative with the cap, bring Dexter Lawrence backs. I don't know what this team looks like without Dexter Lawrence, as we've said for the last week now. It's a nightmare without Dexter Lawrence this roster, and I don't care what draft picks you get back.

3:10.6

It's a nightmare if you put Lee Hunter and Kristen Miller on. It's still not anywhere close to what Dexter Lawrence is. And not to mention, like there's no guarantee those guys translate in our immediate impact NFL players. They're rookies. They're draft picks. We know this. We've lived this life. We have to understand that a proven player like Dexter Lawrence cannot just easily be replaced. We've tried to replace Leonard Williams for years now. We've tried to play Xavier McKinney with Tyler Newman's of the world. It doesn't work one for one. And oftentimes it takes time to develop or they may never develop at all. They're draft picks, their craft shoots. So I don't really care what the compensation is, Nick, but it better be the Quinn and Williams trade compensation or better for me to even consider it. And I'm still not considering it. So you start with whatever the Jets gave up, Jets got to give up Quinn and Williams with the Cowboys. And even then, I'm not really interested personally because I'm not going to find

3:57.7

a Dexter Lawrence anytime soon. There's certainly not any Dexter Lawrence prospects in this draft

4:01.3

class. I can start by telling you that. No one is even remotely close to what he offers from

4:05.7

a pass rushing and run defense combination standpoint. So for me, it's simple. Greg Gabriel said it.

4:11.6

He said, look, this is all part of the negotiation tactic.

4:14.9

I still think the Giants are going to get a deal done. I feel very similarly. But the Giants are going to have to really step up to the plate. And I think they're going to have to meet Dex closer to his number. then Dex is going to have to meet the Giants closer to their number.

4:26.7

I think we're going closer to that way toward Dex's number,

4:29.6

which I am perfectly fine with Nick because,
