Welcome back. It's the Big Blue Banter, New York Giants football podcast. I'm Dan Schneier. I joined as always my host, Nick Falado. Today we are here to break down the Giants offensive coordinator hire. Matt Nagy or Nagy. I don't yet know. It's a correct way to pronounce it. What? Nagy. Nagy. Like Peggy. I'm not sure about that, but I'm going to go with it for now. I'm going to ask you, because this kind of came out of nowhere, I think, for all of us. What were your initial thoughts when you saw that notification this morning? Yeah. Uninspiring, but experienced. And we shouldn't be surprised, right surprised right john harball a big deal that he signed

1:14.6

and we talked about a lot of those and we even had a whole conversation about should the giants

1:18.8

go with somebody new or should they go with somebody experienced there were a lot of signs to

1:23.5

point towards more experienced people john harball's been in the league for a while. There are connections, not that they have worked directly together,

1:30.2

but they both come from the Andy Reed tree,

1:32.0

and Andy Reid is one of the more respected voices in coaching circles.

1:37.5

So I'm sure that had to play into it.

1:39.2

And I just think John Harbaugh wanted to form a staff full of just competent, experienced people.

1:47.0

And so John Harbaal doesn't need to nurture an up-and-coming offensive coordinator.

1:52.0

Now, with that said, I was pretty uninspired by it.

1:56.0

And we'll go through some of the reasons why, because some of the stats from his,

2:00.1

from his days back in Chicago.

2:01.1

And I remember those days back in Chicago just covering football and being like, look, I get doesn't have a ton to work with. He got a lot out of Mitchell Trubisky in 2018. I believe that was his first year as head coach. He won coach of the year, which is excellent. You know, if you win coach of the year, that means you're a great coach. we all know this right guys and um but like you look at the defense and the defense was also

2:20.7

stellar that year. I think they were first in like points per game. So there's a lot to go over. But the first thing that came to my mind was, ah, that's uninspiring. But to, you know, look at this glass half full, ladies and gentlemen. It wasn't long ago when we were talking about Matt Nagy possibly being the head coach of the New York Giant.

2:37.3

So at least now he's the

2:38.1

office coordinator but yeah it um it's not the most exciting hire i'll say that much i think for me
