Welcome back. It's the big blue banter. New York Giants football podcast. I'm Dan Schneier. Joanie's always my coach, Nick Falado, and just when we thought things could be turning around for the Giants or at least have a little bit of fun this season with the Tommy DeVito run. And if the Giants had played well today, Nick, and won the game, it would have just been fun to have this whole week leading into Philadelphia. I don't care about the playoffs and who won what and what the seating was like and what it would have meant for the Giants. But I would have enjoyed going through the process thinking, okay, DeVito's won four in a row now. And maybe just maybe they can upset the Eagles who haven't played their best ball. And sorry, I'm tilting a little bit because of fantasy.

We had a whole 10-minute discussion, Nick and I before this.

But, and then maybe we can get some fun out of that game, like compete with the Eagles. Now, I feel like they're back down to Earth. The Giants. They looked horrific against the Saints today. Didn't trust their drop-back pass game. I don't, I don't see any reason why not to. they're struggling with the stunts again, something that troubled the giants, basically,

0:54.2

throughout our last 10 years as fans picking up stunts up front,

0:59.0

games from the defensive line. They didn't get their run game going at all today. I mean,

1:03.7

that was a disaster on the ground. The run blocking was horrific, maybe the worst I saw all year.

1:09.3

Eventually, the defense broke. I felt like the defense had

1:11.7

a pretty good first half, Nick, all things considered. And by all things consider, I mean, they're on the field every freaking second of the game, it feels like when your offense is that bad. But where we're at here, man, like five and nine, it just, there's other problems with this team other than quarterback. I think it's pretty obvious at this point that the Giants are not a good football team.

1:10.7

They beat a Packers team at home. it just there's other problems with this team other than quarterback i think it's pretty obvious at

1:28.3

this point that the giants are not a good football team they beat a packers team at home with a lot

1:32.6

of juice the giants had you know they played a good game at home they felt that momentum they

1:37.0

grabbed it but the packers then come back and lose at home in a considerable fashion to a shit

1:41.9

buck's team that's injured and not good.

2:51.3

And it's like that win feels like nothing to me anymore. They beat Washington twice. Washington's a horrible team. They beat the Patriots. God bless, the Patriots of three wins this year. This is one of the worst years and giants that I can remember just from the actual product standpoint. Obviously some considerations as to why that happened, Nick. But one thing you mentioned before we got on the air that I want to start with is just how bad they've been on the road, the Giants this year. Outside of beating Washington on the road, and Washington, again, is a pathetic football team. You know, there just hasn't been much success at all on the road, and there's been multiple blowout losses like this one on the road that really concerned me. Yeah, a lot of blowout losses. And also the Giants almost had it against the bills on the road. You look at that too and you're like, oh, they shot themselves in the foot. And that's just what this team does. This New York Giants team in 2023, they find ways to lose football games. And just when you think there's an ounce of hope, just a little smidge of hope that maybe the Giants can go and they can beat the Raiders on the road after they fired their coach, or maybe they can defeat the Saints in the Big Easy, right? Like maybe they can actually win that football game. Just when you think that can happen, they go and they just don't even show up. They just look flat. And that's what this team did.

2:52.8

Like there was not a moment in this game, even though it was I think 7, six a half time. There wasn't a moment in this game where you were like, wow, look at that. Giants are really inspired. They're playing an inspired brand of football. It was just on offense. I don't even know how many times I found themselves in third and long.

2:49.6

They've converted the one with a 29-yard past to Darren Waller on a third and 12.

2:52.7

But other than that, it was secondly, On offense, I don't even know how many times I found themselves in third and long. They've converted the one with a 29-yard past to Darren Waller on a third and 12.

3:10.1

But other than that, it was second and long. It was third and long. They were wildly inefficient on first down, on early downs. And that's what happens when you rely so heavily on efficiency. When you're not efficient, you suck. But the one thing about it is with at least Tommy DeVito,

3:06.5

they've been able to create explosive plays.

3:09.3

They didn't really do that this game, right? Those explosive plays weren't there. It seemed like the Saints, and I can't wait to see the L-22 to substantiate this or not substantiate this, they took away a lot of those outside throws. They ran a lot of pattern match, right? Which made Tommy DeVito, you know, tick a little bit longer. Yeah. His clock to process what exactly was going on. And then they just ran, like you said, all those twists and all of those stunts. And that internal pressure, that pressure from the interior just flushed him out and really just ended up rattling him to the tune of seven sacks, which reverted back from what we saw last week, when it wasn't sacked once.

3:59.3

Yeah, to go back to your point you made a few, a minute ago, Nick, according to Dan Duggan,

4:04.1

the Giants average distance to go on third down today was 10.7 yards on third down, dude.
