Welcome back. It's the big blue banter. New York Giants football podcast. I'm Dan Schneier.

joined as always my co-ist Nick Falado. Coming to you after the Giants week 17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on a last second field goal attempt that went awry for the Giants.

0:17.3

The Giants have actually been on the end, opposite end of last second field goes a lot this year, Green Bay, New England. A few have went their way. This one didn't go their way, quote unquote, depending on how you view their way to go in week 17 of a long season when the Giants are already officially limited from the playoffs. You may view it as a win that that field goal went awry. But very interesting game, Nick, for the first, you know, a lot of these, we've been through a lot of these types of seasons, Nick, recently that are just dead in the water by like week eight or nine. And, you know, maybe like you start to seize a winning streak and you go, well, if this thing happens, the giants can grind their way to the seven seed of, but like typically it hasn't ended in that. This year, another example of where it did not end in a playoff berth. But at the end of these seasons, I'm typically used to seeing just boring, uninspiring, not entertaining football, kind of like that Saints game a couple weeks ago, Nick, it was only two weeks ago. But this was not that. This was a very entertaining

watch as far as Giants games and lost seasons go, Nick. The Giants had, I believe, just under

1:17.5

320 yards passing in this game. And that was only the third time the Giants have had a 300-yard

1:23.0

passer in the last 46 regular season games, are really a standing and phenomenal stat to have that's been, you know,

1:29.9

three, 300-yard passers in 46 games.

1:32.5

I have to really repeat it because it's so absurd.

1:34.7

But that was the bare minimum.

1:37.2

They had 47 yards on a deep post of Jalen Hyatt that was called back.

1:40.8

That would have put them in the 360 range passing.

2:37.4

They had the Darren Walder deep over that, you know, Tyrod Taylor couldn't get the ball out on time. And obviously, Matt Parrott, if you watch the clip, I put it on Twitter, was beat like a drum. Like at the start of that snap, Matt Barrett is so freaking bad in pass protection, Nick. It's unbelievable that he's on an NFL team. That was another 65, 70 yards probably of passing if he gets that. And then obviously the passes that Taylor missed by just short-arming them and just bad ball placement, the drops, Barclays drop, that could have been a 40-yard catch. So, you know, we could have been looking at a 400-yard passing game. And that's just something out of the ordinary watching the Giants over the last five years. There just hasn't been a lot of verticality to their past game. There was a lot of verticality in this game all throughout the game. And that made for entertaining football. You know, if you win, you lose, it doesn't matter. As far as entertainment goes, you want to have some kind of vertical option as a fan to watch your past, you know, the vertical option in the past game.

2:38.9

Giants certainly got that in this game.

2:45.3

So as far as losses go, Nick, this was as entertaining as it gets for me because there's actual passing in this game, vertical wise.

2:48.7

And you know where I'm at in this type of season.

2:54.7

I am ultimately happier that they did not come away with a win in this game, to be honest.

2:58.3

I absolutely love seeing the vertical passing, and I think you're right.

3:00.0

We have to look forward to the draft. You want to win the football game, but this was the optimal game for the Giants.

3:03.8

They were respectable.

3:05.3

They made the Rams butthole very tight.

3:07.4

They pushed them to the brink in a very important game, got to a field goal attempt, and then lost. And it's a microcosm. And it's like a third or fourth time I'm saying it this season, man. But it is. It's a microcosm of the 2023 season for the New York Giants where execution failed them, where they tease you a little bit and then

3:27.2

they fall. And I just go through these games in my head, man. You got the Jet game. You have the
