Thank you and enjoy. Welcome back. It's the Big Blue Banter. New York Giants Football Podcast. I'm Dan Schneier, joined as always by my co-host Nick Falado. Today we're here to catch you up on a little bit of Giants happenings with the NFL owner's meetings in Stu. And, you know, some of many people might say, because Nick said this to me before the podcast, I look a little red. Well, the reason being, I just came out of the steam room after a long workout at the gym. I am also going back to the protein shake. So we're going to hope that this one goes better than the last time with regard to that. But there's no telling and there's no certainty with that regard. But look, I didn't have a lot of time. Nick didn't have a lot of time tonight. So we had to get this thing rolling. And so we want to catch you up before we do some draft profiles. I want to catch you up on things going on with the Giants. And I felt like there were some interesting things said and Nick did as well at the NFL owners meetings between what John Marr said, the Giants owner, between what Brian Daibles said and what he might have hinted at where the guards had potentially a change coming, maybe, maybe not in 2024. And then obviously also what Joe Shane said, |
| 1:12.0 | not as much there. Joe Shane doesn't really like to reveal that much. And that's a good thing. |
| 1:16.6 | So, Nick, I want to start with you just getting your overall sense for anything you heard from |
| 1:21.3 | John Mara at the, let's start with the funny one, where the interesting one. |
| 1:26.8 | Here's John Marr's quote about the offensive line, and I want to get your take on this. His quote about the offensive line was, it's ridiculous. I love this line, and it's a continuing source of frustration for me. I'm just going to stop there for a second, Nick. I feel like it's great. I just love hearing the owner say, it's ridiculous. It really is ridiculous, this offensive line situation. We're going on a decade plus of horrific offensive line play from the Giants. |
| 2:17.5 | How does this even possible? It's so hard to even fathom how it could be possible. I would love to look around the NFL at some point, Nick, and do like a 10-year study and see if any other team has had it as bad as the Giants have had it on the offensive line over the last decade. I'd be curious to see if any teams, even in the same boat as the Giants, I'd be surprised to see if they were. He says, it's time to get a fixed. We've invested in a couple number one draft picks on the offensive tackles. We have a number two draft pick playing at center. Now we have spent some time, some money and frequency. We have a new offensive line coach. That was an interesting line, I thought. I expect us to be a hell of a lot better this year. This was certainly a priority going into the off season to get offensive line fixed. You can't win in this league unless you have a good, productive, consistent offensive line. So what we had years ago when we were actually winning. And we have to get back to that. I think we have the right pieces in there now. We'll see life in football starts the |
| 2:34.3 | up in the line. If you can't block them, you're not going to win. Any thoughts on this quote from |
| 2:37.8 | John Mara? I can just see John Mara up in the owner's box throwing trash cans around every Sunday |
| 2:43.9 | being like, I spent a first round pick on a left tackle got first round pick. Center second round |
| 2:48.3 | pick. It is. It's wildly frustrating how inept the giant's offensive line has been |
| 2:53.8 | and we've made a point on this podcast like dude they have made investments they've made investments |
| 2:58.5 | in the offensive line it's not all through neglect although i think you can say there were certain |
| 3:02.8 | gettelman years where he was like oh matt perr pick 99r, pick 99. He's going to be fine. |
| 3:07.7 | Like things of that nature that do piss us off. But there were plenty of investments on the offensive line and they didn't hit. But I want my owner to be upset about that. And I'm not surprised by it. They're really not like, what else is he going to say? Oh, no, the offensive lines are great. Well, I. Yeah, exactly. I did find it interesting that he said, you know, two things here that I found interesting. He said, I think we have the right pieces in there now. Meanwhile, the Giants didn't add that much in this straight off season yet in pre-agency, right? They added John Runyon, who was a pretty solid guard. I wouldn't say he's like top of the line on Wenu or any of those top market guards. They added Eliminore who we like and we're all hoping good things for, but the same time signed for two years 14 million. It's not like the NFL was jumping out of their seats to get him on the on those team. And then they signed some debt pieces there. So I think part of what he said here, Nick, was interesting to me, which was we have a new offensive line coach. |
| 3:58.1 | I wonder if that's factoring in a lot to him saying what he said there, which is I think we have the right pieces in there now. Because, yeah, you want to give credit to Runyon and Illuminaur and those deputies, that's fine. And we're excited about them. But at the same time, you know, the Runyon contract is very similar to the contract we signed a few years ago when we signed, |
| 3:59.4 | I am I blanking as name, Glawinski from the Colts. time, you know, the Runyon contract is very similar to the contract we signed a few years ago |
| 4:14.9 | when we signed, why am I blanking on his name, Gloinsky from the Colts? And that one didn't work out at all. That wasn't the right piece in there. And then as far as Illuminaurgers, it's harder for me to find a comparison from a money standpoint, but maybe it's kind of like the Patrick O'May contract. Now, again, I think he's going to be better than Patrick O'Me was because |
| 4:31.2 | Gettlement saw something on film with O'Me. |
| 4:33.8 | And within the year, he was cut by the Giants and out of the NFL. |
| 4:36.5 | Hopefully he doesn't go that route. |
| 4:37.8 | But to me, the offensive line coach part was the interesting comment there. |
| 4:41.6 | And the Giants also, by the way, Nick hired an assistant offensive line coach as well |
