was on the roster is because he's part of the international player pathway program. So basically

if he's part of that, he does not count on the 53-man roster. So the Giants can actually have an extra player on their roster.

But he does have to clear waivers first to get on the Giants roster, which he did.

So Joe Shane basically put him on the roster so he can have an extra spot and it backfired on him.

Is this like the NFL's version of DEI?

No, it's the International Player Pathway program. So basically you don't count against the 53-man roster when you signed to their special practice slot.

But the program basically gives international players an opportunity to make the NFL.

And while you're on the special roster, the player can't be signed to the 53-man

roster, but in some cases, he can be elevated to the 53-man roster, but he has to clear

waivers, which he did.
