Summary

Dan and Nick recap the Giants' Week 9 loss to the Commanders dropping the team to 2-7. They discuss why it's necessary to question Brian Daboll's decisions in this game, why the offense is struggling more in the red zone under him than Kafka, and a lot more as they turn the page to whether or not Joe Schoen also belongs on the hot seat as well. Welcome back. It's the big blue banter. New York Giants football podcast. I'm Dan Schneier.

0:05.6

Join as always my coach, Nick Falado. Coming to you after another loss for this Giants football team.

0:10.9

Dropping a two and seven now. And I just saw a stat earlier, Nick. The Giants are 45 games under 500 since 2014.

0:19.6

Really one of the most painful stats I've seen.

0:21.3

That just means think of the seasons we've gone through for them to be 45 games

0:25.2

under 500, just what you have to watch.

0:27.3

And now the Giants, Nick, are 10, 23 and 1 under Brian Dables since his 6 and 2 start

0:34.2

in 2022.

They just got swept by Washington, a team prior to the season. They had beat eight out of ten times. That's that a little less poignant with me, because I know the value of a quarterback like Janin Daniels and what he brings to the offense, not just the offense of the whole team. They rally around him. They're two and seven. They're out of the playoffs again, Halloween weekend. They don't have a division win, Nick. They don't feel like they're going to get a division win this year.

0:55.7

They don't win any division games with this regime. So there will be a lot of this podcast dedicated to discussing Brian Daible and where he's at and where the Giants are at with him and where we're at with him, Nick, because we need to get into that. We can discuss Joe Shane as well. But I do want to talk about the game before we get into the far-reaching 30,000-foot-view stuff.

0:55.2

So we're, you know... We can discuss Joe Shane as well. But I do want to talk about the game before we get into the far-reaching 30,000-foot-view stuff.

1:13.3

So what was your feel in this game?

1:17.4

Run the football.

1:18.2

That was my feel initially.

1:20.0

And when the Giants attempted to pass the football, it turned into a disaster.

1:24.0

Their second pass on that second drive, they ran the football, I think five consecutive times. They picked up four yards, 10 yards, 24 yards, 16 yards, I think another 10 yard run. And then they tried to do the play action screen. And I have nothing against the play action screen. I think that's a fine time to call it because the defense was, and you see throughout the entire game, the defense was trying to shut down the rungs. The Giants were owning the line of scrimmage, but it still doesn't matter. And that's my problem with this freaking team. The Giants can be doing a lot of things correctly, but they're still going to find a way to screw it up. And they go into that play action screen pass and Daniel Jones gets hit because Chris Hubbard gets beat high side by Dante Fowler Jr. The ball gets thrown up in the air. It's like, oh, it's an intercept. No, it's a, it doesn't freaking matter. It's Washington's ball. Washington takes it. They go. They score Terry McCorn's first touchdown, which I saw actually on Twitter, Dan Duggan tweeted. Drew Phillips said that was his fault. That should have been a switch because a lot of people are blaming Tay Banks, which I get because we're going to the Tay Banks around a little bit. But that should have been a switch according to Drew Phillips. I also like the fact that he acknowledged that. He doesn't have to do that, Drew Phillips. And he owned that that was his mistake. But either way, damn, man, like, what do we even say with this team? It's just, it seems like everything is going wrong. It's Murphy's law all the time with this team. Whatever can go wrong, we'll go wrong. And at some point, we have to be like, yo, like in this type of situation, we can blame X, we can blame Y, we can blame we can blame Zee, we got to blame who's in charge of this, right? And it just seems like we're

2:54.4

stuck in Groundhogs Day where it's like the same thing that it was under Joe Judge. It was the same thing that it was under Pat Shermer, under Ben McAdoo. And it's like just manifesting again. And it's wildly frustrated. You said it best, Nick. It's like we've been living in a malaise as Giants fans.

2:52.2

You know, I had a conversation with my brother in Arizona over what feels now like a year and a half ago about the state of the team after the 2020 playoff win. And I was like, I'm not so sure we're headed in the right direction. And I feel like we haven't moved off of that at all.

3:24.5

I feel like we're almost in the same spot. We've cycled in and out some players. Saucon-Barkley's gone. Xavier McKinney's gone. They brought in guys like Brian Burns. But no changes really significantly in the sense of us winning football games. And you said it best. It's like Groundhogs Day. It's every year the same thing.

3:23.0

And then we have this cycle too playing out. You said it best. It's like Groundhogs Day. It's every year the same thing.

3:43.2

And then we have this cycle too playing out.

3:45.0

So it's not just like every year's the same, Nick.
