This is StoryQuest. Today's story is Giant Chickens.

Nobody expected the chickens to get that big, especially not in Barnett.

Barnett was a perfectly ordinary town, famous only for leafy avenues, a nice market, and a football team.

People went about their lives in a very normal way, with very normal sized animals, until the eggs arrive.

It all started at number 47, where Mrs. Shuttleworth found something odd in her supermarket delivery.

Alongside her usual Greek yogurt and two-for-one fig rolls, there was a box labeled

experimental organic free-range chicken eggs handle with extreme caution.

Must be a substitute, she shrugged, and decided to make an omelette.

But before she got that far, her grandson Leo bounded in and turned the box over curiously.

There was something different about these eggs.

Leo hand plans.

Big plans.

Science project plans. I'm going to hatch them, he declared,

balancing the eggs on his electric blanket. Mrs. Shuttleworth looked a bit unconvinced. I don't think you can hatch eggs from the supermarket. If you want chickens, you usually have to go to the meat counter.

But then bargain hunt came on the telly and she waved him off. The school holidays were dragging at this

point and anything to keep him amused was just fine by her. Don't make a mess though. Three days later, to everyone's surprise, the first egg hatched.

But here's a thing, within just one hour the chick was the size of a corgi and growing.

By the end of the week, Barnet had three fully grown, utterly enormous chickens living in Mrs. Shuttleworth's back garden.

Leo had given them names.

Cluck Norris, Eggwood and Beyoncé.

And they had appetites like binlories.

They ate porridge, rive eater, half a shed and someone's mobility scooter.
