Such machines and methods cross boundaries into engineering, science, pseudoscience, religion,

and artistic expression.

And the people who make these devices?

Are they sincere seekers?

Charlatons?

Something else?

I mean when you get down to it, trying to use science to cross boundaries of life's mysteries

was a core theme of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and when you use divine magic to do that same trick
