Hello, just got home on Tuesday evening after recording tonight's episode of Newscast

and I see the some breaking news from New York where Judge Descendants Galein Maxwell

to 20 years in federal prison for her part in recruiting and trafficking young women

so they could be abused by her close associate Jeffrey Epstein.

This follows her guilty verdict on those charges in her trial at the end of last year.

The BBC's Nomiya Ikbal has been reporting on this today.

Basically the prosecution wanted up to 55 years.

Remember she was convicted of sex trafficking and minor which in of itself carried 40 years

so they were going from much higher sentence.

She didn't show any emotion, she was wearing a mask and also navy prison uniform.

She had ankle shackles on her side every time she walked into court and you could hear

the shackles.

But it was interesting that statement that she gave in which she said that she wanted

to give you a bit more of it.

She wanted to acknowledge their suffering, the victim as she empathised deeply with the

victims, calling her association with Epstein as the greatest regret of her life.

The defence wanted five years because they had said well she was a proxy.

They always have maintained that she's innocent, also she served time in jail.

She's been in a Brooklyn detention facility for the last two years and they also said

she had a terrible child at the hands of her father, the infamous late medium ogle,

Robert Maxwell.
