You may have heard that quote before but that's the one that came to mind when I came across Craig Kearlop.

By quote hacking his living situation over the past few years, Craig has turned what is typically our biggest expense, our rent or mortgage, and actually turned it into a profit center.

Doing so has dramatically improved his net worth and put him on a fast track toward early financial independence.

He's even written a book on the topic. It's called The House Hacking Strategy.

And this is the book I wish I'd had when I was 18 or 19.

Definitely would have done some things differently in the intervening decade, which I think is the mark of an eye opening read.

The basic idea here is to use other people's rents to offset or even profit from your own housing costs all while beginning to build wealth to real estate and earn tax benefits as well.

Craig's got a few examples of how you can do this, whether you're a young professional or a little later in the show if you've already got a family of your own, but keep in mind this isn't the common path.

This is living a period of time like others won't, as you'll hear in the first story, to perhaps live decades like others can't.
