Back to school, but not yet, New York City Public Schools have delayed day one with the help of teachers unions, the leader of the American Federation of

teachers. We need to actually create the kind of environments that get kids back

to learning. You can't pick learning versus living. Testing, testing, testing,

getting from stay at home to back out in the world. Dr. Scott Gottlieb says

it hinges on one thing. I think the big mistake here and the one that I think history is going to judge is the fact that we didn't have diagnostic testing in place to know which cities were at risk of becoming New York.

Welcome to Squack Box here on C NBC. I'm Becky Quick along with Brian Sullivan and

Will Frost. Joe and Andrew are both out today but Brian and Wilf it's good to see you

guys. Good morning everybody. I want to start with a personal statement.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced yesterday that the city's public schools,

the largest school system in the country, will delay the start of the in-person school year by 11 days due to concerns

about coronavirus safety. Students and teachers will still participate in a

hybrid learning model, some in-person, some virtual. The new start date, September 21st,

is part of an agreement with education unions

that have been pushing for additional classroom safety

since April.

The September 10th start date, they argued argued was rushed and it was risking infection for everyone.
