What happens when a person gets out of step?

0:22.6

We've been talking about walking in step with him, and we talked about what is required of that.

0:27.4

And second, what can you expect?

0:29.6

And then how do you walk through those difficult times in step with him?

0:35.1

Well, the question now is, what about what happens when you get out of step?

0:40.5

When you choose to walk without him in your life are walking out of step, out of sync,

0:48.1

ignoring him, doing it your own way. And I want to turn with you to First Samuel. And in 1st Samuel, here is a perfect example

0:57.5

of a young man who had it all together. It couldn't have been better for him. He had everything

1:06.0

going for him, and he chose to walk not in step with God's plan and purpose for his life, but out of step.

1:13.2

I'm not going to read you a passage of scripture because I want to take you through these chapters

1:18.7

and show you what happened in the life of Saul and apply to your life in my life because it is so

1:24.9

applicable. Now watch what happens. The scripture says that Samuel,

1:30.0

the prophet, God told him, he said, go to Jesse's house and choose one of his sons to take Saul's

1:35.8

place because I've rejected Saul. So he goes to his house and he says, Jesse, they had sort of a big dinner.

1:42.4

He says, I want you to bring in all your sons and let me meet them.

1:45.4

So he brings them all in. And the first one that comes in is tall, handsome guy. And so Samuel says, this must be the one. God said, he's not the one. So it went through all of his brothers, and finally he said, well, Jesse, is this all of them? He said, well, sort of. One of my youngest son's out there in the sheep field,

2:03.8

but he's just got a bunch of sheep out there. He said, call him. Well, his name is David. Now,

2:08.5

you know the story. So calls David in, and God says he's the man. So he appoints David.

2:14.7

So David is still shepherding sheep, and then he goes down to meet his brothers, and there's this big warfare going on. The Philistines on one side of the valley, and the Israelites on the other side, and here's Saul, and he's scared to death, and he's the king, and he's the commander, and all of his soldiers are all afraid, and so young David, the shepherd boy walks up, and the first thing it happens is his brother says, what are you doing here? Why don't you go back to you a few sheep, which is another cutting way to say, you know, you only have a few sheep out there. Anyway, he says to Saul, I'll take the challenge. And Saul says, put on my arm, I don't need any armor. He knew what his, his armor was God, and his weapon was the slaying, but it was the Spirit of God in that stone. So now you saying the Spirit of God in 12 stones? No, no, no, no, no, that's not what I meant by that. I'm saying it was going to hit his target. And so he goes that and he slays Goliath, makes him a big hero.
