| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to the Hackett-Out Golf Podcast. Just myself and Greg Chalmers today, Lou is away with the university doing his coaching, doing his great work with them. So we're going to talk today, Greg, a little bit about something I've been thinking a lot about recently. As someone who's having to think about even starting playing again, |
| 0:23.2 | this has really got me wondering, because I've never played the way we're going to talk |
| 0:27.4 | about today. |
| 0:28.0 | I've never, I'm always someone who does exactly what we're going to talk about today. |
| 0:33.1 | And that subject is thinking about the numbers when you're playing. So if you're playing in a tournament, |
| 0:39.5 | playing in a competition, forget match play, think more medal. Because I think in match plays a different |
| 0:43.6 | beast, because obviously you do have to react to the direct person you're playing. So if they |
| 0:49.1 | go in it in the water, you might think, well, they're going to be three from here, so I'm going |
| 0:53.0 | to do something else. But thinking medal play, when I used to play, I would 100% be constantly projecting, predicting, |
| 1:02.5 | I need to make a three there. |
| 1:04.5 | I've got two aisles that I want to make par on. |
| 1:06.8 | There's a par five coming. |
| 1:08.0 | If I can make a birdie there, I can get back to one over or one under |
| 1:11.9 | or four over or whatever and then recently I've actually done a few tests which we'll talk about |
| 1:18.4 | as we as the pod goes on where I've tried to literally not think about that at all and think just |
| 1:23.5 | about the shot in hand and it definitely feels feels very, very different way of playing. |
| 1:30.1 | And anyone listening, I would be, just ask yourself, like, |
| 1:33.7 | because I think it's something we do subconsciously. |
| 1:35.5 | How often are you consciously only thinking about the one shot in hand |
| 1:40.2 | and not so much of like, if I chip this here to here and I hold that part, |
| 1:45.3 | I've got a chance of a net power on it, birdie. |
| 1:47.7 | So you're thinking about the moment rather than projection compared to not when you play. |
