It's so hard to fathom that this is 2024 in the United States of America.

You know, women who suffer a miscarriage like I did, and I just got routine medical care to prevent infection are being sent home and say,

wait, wait for your fever to spite, wait for infection to set in, then you can come and get the health care

that you need. And we've seen the horror show that is happening. This is the vision of the Politics Girl podcast. I'm your host Lee McGowan. Let's

get into it. The 118th Republican-led Congress is on track to be one of the least effective

Congresses in American history. From January 2023 to January 2024, only 34 bills were passed, which is the lowest number of bills in a single

congressional session since the Great Depression and the bills that did pass were

not what we saw from the 117th Congress with the American Rescue Plan and the Infrastructure and Jobs Act and the Chips Act and the Inflation reduction act and the PAC Act.

The bills that passed have included the renaming of a Veterans Affairs Clinic, the minting of a coin commemorating the anniversary of the

Marine Corps.

They passed bills to keep the government funded or to avoid default after much debate about

defaulting or shutting down the government, but not much else. So we need to be

clear that this is not a governing body. In fact the Republicans are using the majority of

their power in the House to hold what feels like endless congressional hearings to smear the President and his allies without evidence or cause.

The Republicans might be excellent at obstruction, like they recently showed us by refusing to take a vote on the bipartisan Border Protection Act

while complaining endlessly about the danger at the border, but they are not good at actually running

a functioning government or working for the American people.

To talk more about the growing extremism of mega Republicans and the Democratic plan to not

only keep the House of Representatives functioning, but to actually win it back in the fall.
