It's good to be with you. You heard David mention it for this first session.

Our plan is to learn together for a few minutes from George Mueller. Show of hands,

who is more than marginally familiar with George Mueller? Many of you. It's wonderful. You may know know him you may think first of the great benefactor of orphans in 19th century

england across the span of his ministry when he started caring for orphans until he died

over 10,000 destitute children were cared for

in his orphan houses. You may think of him initially as a man of remarkable prayer.

50 years after his conversion, he was speaking to a group of people and

said it would not be an exaggeration to say that he had received 30,000 answers to prayer

in the very same day or the same hour in which he prayed them.

But I want us to focus tonight on a different element of George Mueller's life.

And I want to get there by setting him up, helping us see him as a man who walked under

tremendous pressure with tremendous peace.

Okay, this man George Mueller walked, it would seem, from the outward elements of his life, under a couple

tons of pressure.

If anybody had a reason to look, worried and careworn, George Mueller did.

If you know him, many of you do, then you probably know that at the beginning of his

orphan work, he resolved that he wasn't ever going to ask anyone for money directly, except for

God. Because he wanted to show both the church and the world

that there is still a God in heaven who hears and answers prayer

and his life showed that you read his autobiography you read accounts of his life

it shows that but it shows that that kind of

testimony to the church and to the world, it came only through countless trials of faith.
