And today we're talking to Chef, Food Writer, and recipe developer, Rachel Gorgiard.

Hi, Rachel. Welcome to the chef. Can you tell our listeners a little bit about yourself?

Hi, my name is Rachel Gourjad and I'm an immigrant from Mumbai, India, and I love cooking

and writing about food.

That's awesome. Have you always loved food? What are your first memories of cooking?

My relationship to food was always watching my mom cook and she did most of the cooking at

home and I helped her with little tasks when I was little.

So chopping vegetables or going to the market with her and then as I grew older,

she would kind of give me a little more to do in the kitchen and I think that's where my love for food grew.

Sounds like you were already training to be a chef without even knowing it.

What would your favorite meal to eat when you were little?

Fried fish and prawns. And surprisingly, my mom didn't cook that, but I went out to eat with my dad

at this local spot.

The fish was like so crispy and juicy,

and it was served with a little chutney,

and I really enjoyed eating that.

That sounds really good.

So then when you got older, you went to call it to become a journalist.
