He needed help. 30 years ago the cops would have brought him to a psychiatric emergency room

He probably would have gone to any psychotics and he probably would have been hospitalized for a couple of weeks

That's the way it was done in the 70s when I practiced the psychiatry

But today that doesn't happen the cops left. He was left on his own

He was a man who shouldn't have been on his own. He should have had the state looking after him

In the end of killing people in a way that's look you want to respect the civil liberties of everybody

But there is a point in which if you don't take control of people who are clearly out of touch with reality

You are damaging them, exposing them and of course tragically exposing a lot of innocence around them

That's the late Charles Krauthammer who was a psychiatrist in addition to being one of the leading conservative pundits in America

I am going to try to find the best magazine articles, books or whatever on this

What was our mental health system like back in the day?

Has listened to a couple of podcasts yesterday from people who are old enough to remember

The way we handled mental health as Charles mentioned there in the 70s or the 60s or the 50s

Where if your family member thought you were crazy they could go and get you sent to the funny farm

And they could take a look at until they could deem you healthy enough and not a danger to yourself or others

And let's out!

Obviously we don't do that at any level anymore!
