Here are my goals, a couple of goals.

One is I would like to be used by God in the next 35 minutes or so to awaken in you a deep unshakable holy

ambition for your life that you can't shake off. And I would like it to be so

deeply rooted and so strong in you that it enables you to leapfrog over

adult lessons and I'll explain that term to you in a few minutes. I would just love it if this group of people could skip that new modern phase of growing up.

And so those two things are my goals.

And what gives me a sense of seriousness

about the moment is not only that I'm going to deal with God's word about

holy things, but my own experience is that at every crucial point in my life where I made a turn that changed everything, people were

involved in influencing me profoundly.

And when I decided to move toward ministry instead of pre-med, it was a man preaching

in the Wheaton Chapel and I was listening on the radio because I was in hospital and everything

changed.

Just everything changed.

I was madly in love with Noel and she thought she had just fallen in love with the

pre-med student and I shocked her by saying, what would you think if I just junk that whole

dream and went to seminary and she didn't junk me, she

hasn't for these 43 years.

But what moves me is that it was a man,

was a human being speaking over the radio and my whole life

never was the same again.
