The Twelve Tribes — the group behind the Yellow Deli restaurant chain — has faced allegations of systematic child discipline across three continents and five decades. Former members who grew up inside the Twelve Tribes in the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s describe the same system their predecessors described in the 1980s. Police records from Colorado compounds as recently as 2020 document ongoing concerns. The group maintains that their approach is biblical parenting.
