The German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz has announced a new military cooperation with Ukraine,

in which Germany will finance and build long-range missiles with Ukraine to help Keev in the conflict with Russia.

He was speaking alongside President Zelensky in Berlin.

Earlier, the Ukrainian president said Russia is gathering 50,000 troops across the border

from the Ukrainian city of Sumi for a summer offensive.

Mr Zelensky had been hoping that Germany would give the go-ahead for Kiev to use

powerful long-range terrorist missiles from Germany, which some analysts say could be a game-changer

for Ukraine's army.

Speaking to journalists after the talks, the German Chancellor said Germany was prepared to increase the pressure on Russia.
