Welcome to the lead update, Tapper, and we start today with our world lead president

Biden.

Finally, publicly speaking this afternoon about the unidentified object shot out of the

sky by the U.S. military over the weekend, President Biden says nothing suggests these

objects are related to China's spy balloon program, or that they were surveillance objects

from any other country.

But we should note, the U.S. has not yet been able to recover any of the debris from

the three objects shot down over the weekend because of remote locations and severe weather.

President Biden also said he hopes to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping soon, although

we should also note, attempts by top U.S. officials to speak to their Chinese counterparts

have been rebuffed in recent days.
