Hey deserving listeners, I want to talk about what's happening in my country right now and I guess more specifically in my town right now in Seattle.

There's a fair amount of rioting and protesting and unrest and news stories and fear and sadness and

pontificating from people like me and so I'm gonna try not to do that but I was thinking about of all the things that I could talk about and there's a lot of things running through my head, emotions and thoughts

and ranting and yammering.

But I think what I could offer is the systemic perspective which is often hard to know or

many people don't even know about it.

So I haven't I haven't I don't have any notes so this is just off the top of my head so I hope that this goes okay

So let's bring it to something a different sort of a system first before talking about the system of my town and the

system of my country and the system of the world.

Let's talk about the system of a family.

So in a family, we will, clients will come into us

and they'll say, you know, we have a teenage boy

who is skipping school, he is talking back to the parents, he's not doing his chores, and he's just

an unpleasant person.

And can you fix him?

Well, decades ago, pioneering family therapists worked with these families, tried to help the teenager, and they might even change the teenager.

And then once the teenager went back to the family,

everything went back to normal.

And so the family therapist, these pioneering people, they said, okay, well, we tried and succeeded in fixing the teenager, but nothing, but as soon as the teenager went back to the system and the family

everything went back to the same why is that? Well then they started thinking

about cybernetics and homeostasis and all these systemic notions from other systems like the system of a cell or the like

you know a biological cell or the system of a climate that when you look at things systemically or
