Larry King, the broadcaster, died over the weekend at age 87.

He was one of my early radio influences, because his radio show at night, I absolutely loved.

You know, for all the fun that were made of his newspaper columns, I always liked them.

Always read it. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't read it.

I hope my mockery over the years has never come across as anything.

He is an absolute legend, and I'm a fan of his entire catalog.

Oh, yeah. He just was so delightfully him. It was impossible not to make fun with him. I don't even think I was making fun of him.

Well, and he was so distinctive of a character. His look, his voice, just the whole thing.

He made no claim of being a journalist, said the New York Times, although his show sometimes made news,

and he interviewed every newsmaker that existed over many, many decades.

He was not confrontational.

He rarely asked anyone, let alone a politician or a policymaker, a tougher technical question,

preferring gentle prods to get guests to say interesting things about themselves.

He once asked President Nixon, when you drive by Watergate, do you feel weird?

What a great question.
