I'm Gianna Jalosi with your Fox True Crime Minute. Police arrested a man in Arizona four

decades after a cold case murder and sexual assault of two teenagers in Northern California.

Back on December 19, 1984, 18-year-olds, Terence Arndt and an unnamed girl were parked near Ashaston County High School when a man pulled up to the vehicle.

Police say Arndt tried to protect the female but was shot in the head.

Female victim was then assaulted and left for dead.

After the suspect left the scene, police say she drove Arndt's car for help, eventually able to reach police.

Arndt, though, was taken to the hospital where he died.

The case remained unsolved for over 40 years until it was revisited last year using genetic genealogy.

That led police to a suspect identified as Roger Ne Neil Schmidt Sr. He's 64 years old now

and living in Tucson, Arizona, and would have been 23 at the time of the crime and lived in Bernie, California.

Schmidt was arrested earlier this month and charged with murder and sexual assault. There's more on
