And when we get started, we'll be picking up in Genesis chapter 48, verse one.

We may well finish Genesis this evening but who knows but I make such predictions they're usually wrong so we don't have to do too much

review tonight because this last part of Genesis, in particular, chapters 48 and 49,

are sort of its own textual unit. I'll talk about that more here in a minute. So we really,

last time we really finished up the story of Joseph, which was really sort of an extension of the story of Jacob, as we talked about, because Jacob is still around.

And at the end of that story,

Jacob ended up traveling himself to Egypt being reunited with Joseph.

We saw the brothers are also there,

sort of the whole extended family and household of Jacob

is now living in the Nile Delta region.

And we also saw this sort of the beginning of this transformation in Egyptian life.

That started happening during this period.

There was this crisis of the seven years of famine.

Joseph prepared for it. but in the process of

sort of surviving that and the measures that Joseph took with Pharaoh, there was sort of a centralization

of authority. There were certain economic shifts that we saw talked about. And those are all going to

play into, as we mentioned last time when we come into exodus remember genesis we've said this all along genesis is the prologue to the Torah so this is the prologue to what's going to happen in exodus through deuteronomy and exodus through Deuteronomy is going to be the arc of the life of Moses, essentially.
