In just a moment, we'll be picking up in Genesis chapter 27, verse 1.

So last time, I won't spend too much time on review because last time was kind of an interlude between the episode where Esau sort of traded his birthright to Jacob for the stew.

Then there was this interlude about Isaac.

And now we're coming back to, as we start chapter 27,

we're coming back to the story of Jacob and he saw the sons.

That interlude, as we talked about last time, to summarize it very quickly,

was showing how certain patterns in the life of Abraham,

those same patterns were sort of borne out in the life of his son, Isaac.

And we talked about the whole biblical concept that undergirds, that's why it's here

at Genesis that undergirds a lot of the Torah and the rest of the Old Testament and the whole

Bible, that the son is the image of the father. This is this sort of bedrock biblical principle that, of course, is going to come to its ultimate

fulfillment in Christ, who is the son of God, is, as we're told in Hebrews, the express image of God

the Father, but that this is a pattern or an idea that's found here right from the beginning.

But that said, right, we're not really picking up with that theme again right away.
