Today, the Bible Study podcast continues the study of the book of Genesis with Chapter 11.

I'm your host, Chris Christensen. This is the last episode we're going to have here in Genesis that is before Abram. We're going to get into Abraham or Abraham in next chapter. We're going to get into his family this chapter and start the story of the patriarchs next chapter, but first we get the Tower of Babel.

Now, the whole world had one language and a common speech. As people moved eastward, they found

a plane in Shinar and settled there. They said to each other, come let us make bricks and bake them

thoroughly. They used brick instead of stone and tar for mortar.

Then they said, come let us build ourselves a city with a tower that reaches to the heavens so that we

may make a name for ourselves. Otherwise, we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.

But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building.

The Lord said, if as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this,

then nothing they planned to do will be impossible for them.

Come let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.

So the Lord scattered them there over all the earth and they stopped

building the city. That is why it is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of the

whole world. From there, the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth. This is an odd

story, and it certainly seems like an apocryphal story.

It's got that kind of feel to it, but I wasn't there, so I won't say anything about that.

But the point in the story here is that people are working together, and they're doing something.

Now, the interesting thing is what they're doing seems a little pointless in the sense

that they're building a tower.

And a tower is an accomplishment, but it doesn't necessarily do anything for you.
