Now, more than half the Afghan population, 23 million people now face extreme levels of hunger.

An economic crisis caused by the abrupt withdrawal of international funding, along with the impact of sanctions,

has resulted in a growing humanitarian crisis.

While the Taliban have shown no sign of being willing to share power or to hold elections,

how do Afghans see their future?

I was joined by our Afghanistan correspondent, Sukunda Kamani.

I'm standing on the edge of a rubbish-strewn mud ground in the shadow of Kabul's Dharalaman Palace.

A dozen or so horsemen are jostling with each other,

trying to pick up a plastic goat carcass and drop it into the center of a chalk circle.

A hundred or so spectators have gathered to see this practice match of Afghanistan's national sport, Buzkashi.

I've just come here to keep myself busy and stop myself turning into a vagabond. If I sit at home, I get so depressed.

Malang is wearing rather tattered clothes.

He owned a cart moving goods around a market but says now there's no work.

I used to be able to buy cheap meat.

Now I can't even afford potatoes.

I'm the only person working but there are 15 of us in my family.

Standing nearby, we meet three cousins in their early 20s, with shawls draped over their

heads and wispy beards.
