Summary

Last month, Founder of Up and Up Strategies, Rachel Janfaza, published an op-ed in the Washington Post detailing how the pandemic and politics have created a stark divide between older and younger Gen Z. Now, many of them are in their early twenties, Gen Zers continue to develop a cynical view of the future.  Kennedy sits down with Rachel for a candid conversation about her peers and how TikTok's rise in popularity in 2020 continues to affect how twentysomethings operate daily.  Follow Kennedy on Twitter: @KennedyNation Kennedy Now Available on YouTube: https://bit.ly/4311mhD Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to this episode of Kennedy Saves the World.

0:12.4

So just this week, very interestingly, Gen Z has emerged as the most interesting generation

0:20.2

because their voting preferences have completely changed and

0:24.2

have baffled pollsters, especially in the most recent election. It has always been assumed.

0:30.6

It has always been just a given that younger voters will skew left. But now they threw a lot of their support behind Donald Trump and were

0:41.0

very much put off by Kamala Harris. Why? That is the great question that eludes so many pollsters

0:49.0

who would much prefer to put these younger voters into a box where they refuse to reside.

0:56.4

What's even more interesting is there is a big gender divide in the way younger men and younger

1:02.0

women are voting.

1:03.2

There's a 23% gulf between them.

1:07.7

And I have seen this firsthand with my daughters and some of their guy friends who for a long

1:13.1

time just anecdotally have appeared to be skewing right and I just assumed that this was

1:21.7

rebellion because in New York City public schools they get a lot of lessons from the left. And when that kind of stuff is sort of

1:31.4

shoved down your throat, it feels like propaganda. And if there is propaganda and you're a young

1:35.6

person, you're going to rebel against that. But when you fold in the pandemic and the effect that

1:42.0

it had on some of these younger people who were voting for the very

1:45.9

first time, their worldview, their outlook is completely different than generations who just

1:52.1

assume they know Gen Z. Well, as a mother of two Gen Zers, who happen to be very different from each

1:58.7

other, I will tell you that you don't. But it's really

2:02.5

interesting to get to know their story and hear their perspective because this generation,

2:07.7

more than any other, and this is coming from a Gen Xer, they are by far emerging as the most

2:13.5

interesting. Joining me now is Rachel at Jan Faza. She is the founder of the up and up.
