Rortega. I'm so happy to be back with another episode. Today I have a tiger girl, Dara. I'm so happy

to have her on. Dara, how are you doing? I'm good. Thank you so much for having me.

Yes, I'm so excited. I had mentioned, I think in one of the first episodes that since I grew up

dancing, I love the Tiger Girls. So being able to like get to know all of you and do community

service with you guys has been so fun. So I'm so happy to have you on the podcast. So start off. Just tell me a little bit about

yourself. Yeah, so I am 22 years old. I am graduating this May from LSU broadcast journalism

is my major. Yeah, I've grown up dancing since I was two years old. It's literally all I've

ever known. I had brothers that did sports, but every time I would do a sport, I would just do cartwheels. You'd be in the outfit doing cartwheels. My mom's doing like twirls and stuff on the basketball court, and she pulled me out right away. She's like, no, you're not going to embarrass me. So yeah,, I've just danced my whole life. I'm from Hammond, Louisiana, so I'm hometown girl pretty much, only 45 minutes away from Baton Rouge. Wow, that's how far I was from Iowa from my hometown, so that's cool. Yeah. It's nice. Like, just having, like, the support of your family and coming to everything.

It's kind of made the whole experience so much better. So yeah, that's pretty much it. I have two brothers, great mom and dad. Yeah. I love it. So what is your plan with broadcast journalism? What do you

want to do with that? So I kind of, I started out as actually pre-physical therapy was my major. Yeah, so very, very different.

Very, very different. But I really like science and I was good at it and I kind of started in that.

And then I love to talk. I love like being on camera film, like all kinds of stuff like that.

And I have like a creative niche sort of. I mean, it goes with dance. Being like able to like create videos and like edit them. I really like that kind of stuff. And I feel like I'm detail oriented in that way too. So it kind of works out good. And so I want to just try it. I tried it for one semester because I talked to my counselor and she's like, yeah, do it. And I was like, okay. And I really loved it. So I don't know.

We'll see kind of what the next chapter looks like for me. But I post like social media content a lot. So it goes hand in hand with that. Yeah, I love it. So dance your whole life. Yes. What role would you say dance has played in your life? Yeah. It's honestly played the biggest role.

It's just been the most, like, constant thing in my life.

constant thing in my life. Like, when you grow up doing something, it kind of, like,

shapes the way you grow up and how you view things, and it's created the most, like, best

community I could ever imagine. Like, I have family like friends that I call family now just from dance.

And I don't know, just going like to a place that you feel comfortable, you feel confident,

you feel yourself and you can really like foster just like a talent that you have and the drive
