Gaza's largest hospital, Al-Shiffer, has taken in some of the many thousands of Palestinians who suffered from Israel's military operation in the territory,

but the medical facility has itself borne the brunt of some of the most recent intense military

bombardment. Now Israel says it has completed its operation there and all its

troops have left the area. The UN's Georgios Petro Poulos, who's in Gaza, told the BBC that all sides should

respect the status of Al-Shifa and other hospitals.

The International Humanitarian Law tells us that if a hospital is functioning as a hospital is a protected place.

We continue to call on all parties, you have to let these hospitals be hospitals.

If any side is using it as anything other than that, it stands to lose its

legitimate status as a protected site. We don't have enough of these things left here in the

Gaza Strip to be playing games like this.
