A noted speaker, writer and publisher on caregiving issues since 1995, Gary Barg is Founder and Editor- In-Chief of the first national magazine for caregivers, Today’s Caregiver, as well the original online caregiver community, caregiver.com. Today’s Caregiver magazine and caregiver.com combine information, advice and reader’s stories with interviews with celebrity caregiver such as Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, Rob Lowe, Dana Reeve, Jennifer Grey, Ed Asner and Debbie Reynolds, among others.
 
Gary created The Fearless Caregiver Conferences, hosted across the country, which brings together caregivers to share their knowledge and experience and wisdom.His first book, The Fearless Caregiver, includes practical advice, poetry and inspirational stories. His second book, Caregiving Ties that Bind includes many of the over 150 celebrity caregiver cover interviews that he has conducted since 1995.
 
His newest book, You Are Not Alone, is filled with advice and wisdom learned from family caregivers at over 280 Fearless Caregiver conferences held since 1998.
 
His awards include the Mature Media Award for writing, International Television Association Golden Reel Award and the Southern Gerontological Society Media Award.Gary serves as a member of the Board of Trustees, National Adult Day Services Association and a Member of the Board, American Association for Caregiver Education.His interviews include; The Today Show, Bloomberg Radio Network, Time Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, USAToday, Miami Herald, NPR Diane Rehm Show, Los Angeles Business Journal, and Parade Magazine.

Absolutely. It's our pleasure. It's our pleasure. And I want to kind of start, though, because you're such a known

commodity, I guess, in the caregiver space, Gary.

But where did Gary Barg's story start? And how did you get involved in this space?

Well, I won't go back too far. We'll just go back 33 years. My dad, I'm in South Florida right now, and so I was born and raised in Miami, North Miami Beach,

and my family's here, but I was living in Atlanta getting set up to do work for the 96 Olympics.

And I got the call that dad was, he had retired in 91 and developed bone marrow cancer immediately.

And mom went from love of life for 50 years and partner in a new little business they were starting together and travel companion and to caregiver

and all that that wrought and I had no idea what that was and I would come in my brother was in

New Orleans I was in Atlanta and one of us would be in once every six weeks or so but you don't know

if for a weekend you don't know if you're not a caregiver.

And I always like to say, and I am one now, so caregivers are sneaky a lot because mom would
