Hello, Edge Draw here. As part of our look back at the 2020 Formula One season, I spoke to the

0:06.1

Races technical expert Gary Anderson to get his verdict on all 10 teams. This was for an episode of

0:12.7

the Gary Anderson F1 show podcast, but we thought listeners of the Race F1 podcast would also enjoy

0:18.8

hearing what he had to say. So here's Gary, with his thoughts on the

0:23.1

2020 F1 Contenders.

0:35.2

Well, the 2020 Formula One season is finally done undusted. It's been a frenetic 17 races. It's flown by. Great. We've even got a season at all. And as always, Gary Anderson has been following it closely. I'm Edstraw, your host. Joining me is indeed the star of the show Gary Anderson. And because the season's finished, it's the perfect time to have a look back over the performance trends and run through the teams for kind of Gary's.

0:58.8

It's not just a technical review, but a kind of team and technical review, as Gary has no lack of experience when it comes to analyzing his own team's performance and that of others.

1:07.9

So just generally, Gary, this has been a pretty amazing season,

1:11.9

hasn't it? Yes, Mercedes won again, so it's the same old story in that regard. But despite the

1:16.9

slightly tame ending in Abu Dhabi, it's just kept delivering interesting storylines, hasn't it?

1:21.1

It has, yes. I mean, obviously, the main interest in storyline, I suppose, started away at the

1:25.9

beginning of the season whenever we went to

1:28.0

the tests in Barcelona and sort of that point in time we discovered that Ferrari weren't as quick as

1:33.6

they thought they were and I think they thought they were quicker because I think they ran a bit

1:38.2

lower fuel during that test than relative to Mercedes or Red Bull but at the end of the day

1:43.8

I suppose that was a big shock was how bad they really were. And then on top of that, how bad Sebastian Vettel was relative to Charles L.Clerc. So it was a double whammy for them, really. It was a bad season. And obviously Vettel suffered the consequences of that. But it's been a crazy mixed up season. We've got 17 races in and with a situation with this COVID-19 has been quite incredible some of them fantastic races some of them all right races and some of them are a bit boring but in general you know the drivers had to rise to the occasion without their their supporters or any spectators there We all know that that lifts people a little bit now and again. But that didn't happen this year. So they're out in the limb having to do it to a fairly silent audience, I suppose you might call it. Well, we've got lots to to get through. So we thought we'd run through each team, but we'll do it in reverse order. So we'll have a quick look at the teams at the back. Now, there's quite a nice little way of looking at the three teams at the back, which is Williams, Alpha Romeo and Hasse, because they formed quite a distinct group. So it's Class C as we've dubbed it this year. Alpha Romeo was the dominant force in that. Kimmy Reichen and won the virtual championship for want of a better word.

2:51.7

I think 11 times an Alpha was ahead of that pack when it comes to the final race results.

2:58.1

So Alpha was the strongest in this group. Two Ferrari engine teams there in Hassan Alpha,

3:03.4

obviously Williams recovering but still struggling. So what did you make of that little battle?

3:08.1

It's always interesting when you've got such a distinctive group, isn't it? Yeah, it was sort of

3:11.9

week and week out, but I'd have to say that probably the combination of the alpha drivers and the

3:17.4

combination of the Haas drivers were probably better than the combination of the Williams drivers.
