Just a few miles off the Thailand coast, the island of Kothau looks like a postcard.

I'd underneath the surface lies something sinister.

In the last 20 years dozens of tourists have died mysteriously on the island.

A dark cloud who's come over the island, death, mystery and danger.

There was a scare back in the 80s. Do you remember that one, John, where Dungeons and Dragons may have had some things with some messages popped into there? What was that all about?

The satanic panic. That's right.

And it was rock and roll music. Right? The devil worked into the lyrics backwards.

And Dungeons and Dragons was teaching people to cast spells and dabbled in the occult. That was the charge.

People panicked though. They went crazy.

If they did a little bit, you know, in fairness, I mean Dungeons and Dragons absolutely have, you know, devils and witches and all sorts of spirits and demons.

And all sorts of spirits and, you know, pantheons from all over the world and from all over history.

So it really had all those creepy crawly things in the game, but it was just a story.

But it was pretty scary to people who looked at it and thought, oh my gosh, this is actually telling people to become sorcerers and to, you know, maybe play an evil character. Right?

That was, I was too much for some people.

Does the paranormal kind of ease into a lot of these games?

Oh, absolutely. Yeah. And, and, you know, these games we're talking about, these fantasy role-playing games come in all sorts of shapes and sizes.
