But now for the first time, the Caps are going to try and defend their Stanley Cup title

as the playoffs start tonight, game one against the Carolina hurricane. So Joe B, let's start with you

and your one big thought. Well, I think Washington has the firepower to dispose of Carolina. I don't

know how quickly in this Best of Seven series. I hope they can do it in six games or less. But to me, what's going to be most important from a defensive standpoint is to take care of

the known scorers on Carolina.

If you can eliminate the goal-scoring talents of Niedermeyer, Ah, Ho, Williams, Stahl, Svetnikov,

I think you're in pretty good shape because Washington has seven different 20 goals scorers this season. Truly remarkable in their scoring depth,

and I expect them to play the right defensive structured game against Carolina, the one that they

displayed late in the month of March, back-to-back games.
