It's an overtime winner for the Capitol!

That is pretty much how you draw it up.

John Carlson of the goal and two assists. Ovi with two power play

goals. Cousie dazzling in the overtime to set up the Matt Niskin and game winning goal. Backsham

with a couple assists and Braden Holpey was fantastic. Basically all the Caps stars played like stars

as the Caps escaped the Rangers 4 to 3 in overtime as we welcome

into our Caps. Capital's Talk podcast, Rob Carlin, with Alan May. It was a game where you thought,

and you even said in pregame live, jump on the Rangers early, step on their throats,

get to them and try and jump out to a big lead. Rangers score first. They had more run, despite

being on the back half of the back-to-back. And it was sort of like the caps just survived this game,

despite all those great numbers by their stars, they just kind of survived this game.

They did. And they obviously didn't watch the pregame show and see what we were talking about,

what they should have done. But they played a soft game in the first period, lots of pretty passing. I don't know if the coach's game plan was to stretch and, you know, try to move them east-west all the time in the coverage, the Rangers that is, but it didn't work. There was passes in the skates. Actually, all night long. night long. It was an ugly game. It was an awful game. It was a boring game.

It was the least exciting home game we've seen so far. It was at a time they had a dud. I didn't like it. And I guess the good news is that Toronto didn't win the Stanley Cup tonight. So they, you know, I don't just come back in Toronto. So they were able to get away with it

because Toronto won the cup on Saturday.

But although they won on January, July 1st, and then they won an opening night, their opening night, and then, you know, the games after that. And they won the scoring championship. Go figure Alan May picking a fight for no damn reason at all. I like it, but for no damn reason at all. But this was, so why is it? Why is it that on a night when you're thinking, the Rangers must be tired, they played a shootout game last night, they had a travel, this is sort of set, and the Caps have played great Wednesday night games, bad Thursday night games, they know what it's like on the other end. Why do you get a flat performance? I think that it was the coaching of the Rangers. They came in here and threw a no hitter in the first period. Actually, I should say they threw a one hitter in the first period. And they had no interest in playing the body. They just wanted to go up and down the ice, own the middle of it, use their sticks to check the puck. And they did that because there were so much sloppy passing by the caps because the Rangers took away the middle of the ice. And then when the

caps were going with the cross-ice pass trying to spread out the coverage, they were throwing it

behind the player that they were trying to get it to. And that plays into a hand of a team that's
