So today is going to be part three of a teaching series I've titled How to Overcome Carnality.

As I mentioned before, I've been really looking forward to this particular passage in God's Word and this for a number of reasons,

not the least of which, is that once again we have

in our text the what of God's word packaged with the how of God's word. In other words, not only

are we told what we're to do, we're also told how we're to do what

were to do. I like how one said it. The how of the Holy Spirit enables us to do the what of the

holy word. And certainly this is the case in our text today, very practically, by the way,

and rightfully so, because when it comes to the problem of carnality, it must be dealt with practically. And this is why the Apostle Paul by the Spirit of God

tackles this in a very practical way. And as such, we have here woven into the fabric of our

passage today practical ways in which we as Christians

can overcome the lust of the flesh. I call it the big three that we have against us,

the big three. It's the flesh, the world, and the devil. And here's the truth. We don't stand a fighting

chance absent the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome. And we're not just overcomers. We're

promised to be more than overcomers. And as we're about to see today, what's on the table today is the

difference between being overpowered or empowered, overpowered by the flesh or empowered,

or empowered by the spirit.

And that's what's on the table set before us here today in God's Word.

It's been a couple weeks since we were in our study in Galatians,

and I think it would be good if we just took a little bit of time and sort of revisited the first three ways that we can overcome

carnality. The first one is in verses 13 through 15 and it's that of humbly serving and loving one

another. Here Paul says we're to serve one another.

Here, Paul says, we're to serve one another in love and humility so as to not use our freedom in Christ to indulge the flesh.
