Hey, everybody. It's Matt. This is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast. And last time around, I was asking

you to picture, I was asking you to tell me where your head goes when I say the words

idolatry and witchcraft. And we only really got to idolatry because of how this podcast always goes.

So today we're talking about witchcraft and I ask you the same question.

Where does your head go? What do you picture when I say witchcraft? For me, it's the same thing as idolatry. I think of things from very long ago, performed by people very different from me,

that I guess I just assume because of my naturalistic modern age technology-informed worldview, I guess I just

assume that they were all fake and didn't do anything. But I don't know, people back then,

in ancient times and medieval times, they sure thought witchcraft did something. A lot of times

when I look back at history and think I know

how the things are and that all the people back then were seeing it all wrong, well, the more I get

to know how people back then saw it, the more I realize maybe they saw something I didn't. Maybe

they had a point. So is witchcraft from the ancient world real or not? Did it tap into some sort of dark power or

spiritual forces or not? Let's let that question linger a little bit. But this is something

I've looked into quite a bit. I find it to be fascinating because witchcraft in the New Testament

is often held out as being almost a rival faith or practice to the gospel.

It's held out as being antithetical with life by the spirit.

And indeed, that's what we're getting in Galatians 5, where the Apostle Paul includes witchcraft on his pink slip ticket that has every bad box ticked of all the bad things that are the product,

that are evidences that are the outgrowth of the sinful nature or the flesh,

witchcraft, once again, is on that list. What a sentence that was that I just said.

Diagramming, whatever it is that I just did for the last 25 seconds of run-on disaster would be like, do you remember when

Sarah Palin ran for Vice President of the United States? And one of the jokes was that they

would try to diagram her sentence structure. I think I'd just put her to shame or made her feel
