Summary

Hi friends! This episode is featuring Drew Manning. Drew is a fitness trainer and Keto Diet expert. Manning made major headlines when he embarked on a journey to gain 70 pounds to understand what his clients undergo and experience the challenges himself. "Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs on Purpose" is a New York Times Bestseller, released in 2012, and his weight gain and weight loss journey was made into a TV show for A&E.

Drew recently re-did the experiment again in 2020 and tested and  shared not only his journey but also his bloodwork while doing "healthy" and  "dirty" versions of keto, paleo, vegetarian and  vegan diets and his results might surprise you!

Prior to beginning a ketogenic diet you should undergo a health screening with your physician to confirm that a ketogenic diet is suitable for you and to rule out any conditions and contraindications that may pose risks or are incompatible with a ketogenic diet, including by way of example: conditions affecting the kidneys, liver or pancreas; muscular dystrophy; pregnancy; breast-feeding; being underweight; eating disorders; any health condition that requires a special diet [other conditions or contraindications]; hypoglycemia; or type 1 diabetes. A ketogenic diet may or may not be appropriate if you have type 2 diabetes, so you must consult with your physician if you have this condition. Anyone under the age of 18 should consult with their physician and their parents or legal guardian before beginning such a diet. Hello, my friends. Welcome back to the Optimal Protein podcast. I am so excited for today's

0:10.2

episode. We are talking with Drew Manning. You may know him as the fit to fat to fit guy.

0:17.6

And he actually did an experiment on himself where he gained voluntarily over 70 pounds

0:24.2

and then lost all the weight in six months and showed everyone how he did it and he had always been

0:30.1

sort of a naturally fit person and so he wanted to relate to his clients more and learn how to do

0:36.5

it now he just redid the experiment for the second time in 2020.

0:40.8

And this time, he measured his blood work as he tried dirty keto, clean keto, dirty

0:48.3

paleo, clean paleo, and the same thing for vegan and vegetarian diets.

0:53.3

And he had some really surprising results with his blood work, especially on the vegetarian diet.

1:00.5

And I found this truly fascinating.

1:03.0

But today we talk all about exactly how he did this process both times, how he gained the weight,

1:10.0

how he lost the weight, specifically how that

1:12.1

was for him, what he learned along the way as well as what his blood work did when he tried all

1:17.2

these different diets. And we also get to talk a little bit about keto and his approach personally

1:23.1

because, you know, being a naturally fit person, I was curious to know what drew him, you know,

1:28.7

initially to the keto diet and the keto lifestyle. And he gets to share about that. And also,

1:34.9

why some people should or shouldn't do a cyclical approach to keto and a targeted approach to

1:41.1

keto and also what those approaches are and how they can be potentially

1:46.1

beneficial, especially with athletes. So really a lot of great information in this episode. And

1:51.6

it was so much fun getting to chat with Drew about his whole experience. So I hope that you

1:57.3

guys enjoy this episode as much as I enjoyed getting to record it.
