We're beginning the program in Argentina where the Senate in the very early hours this morning voted to approve the radical new President

Javier Milay's plans to tamp the flames of economic chaos. It was a very close thing. Mr. Malay's sweeping proposals

squeaked through by a casting vote. While outside in the capital Buenos Aires, the streets

were engulfed in furious protest.

Cars were burned, petrol bombs thrown the security forces responding with tear gas and water cannon.

These people who were demonstrating outside Congress condemned President Milay's plans.

This is a disastrous law for the Argentine people where there is labor reform without any

severance pay where workers again have to pay the salary tax.

This law attacks all workers in Argentina.

I'm a retired teacher and I do not want to be the last generation of retirees in my family.

Argentina has been locked into a spiral of economic misery for years now.

Recently my news our colleague James Menendez travelled to the country to report on the crisis and spoke to

Oriana, a stay-at-home mother in her early 20s in Buenos Aires.

Every day we think about whether we're going to be able to pay the rent, whether we're going to be able to pay the building service charge, the bills. To that we have to add the food bill, transportation cost.

It's very difficult and you're constantly asking.

Since everything is expensive, you're constantly worried.

No one doubts the scale of the task in Argentina.
