The jobs report headlines a busy day. The DOJ is seeking damages from Edison over two California wildfires,

and Open AI is working on a new chip project. Futures are in the green ahead of the opening

bell as traders look forward to the Big Jobs report. S&P futures are up 0.2%, NASDAQ futures up 0.4% and Dow features are flat. The 10-year

treasury yield is flat at 4.17% and the two-year yield down one basis point to 3.61%. Of course,

one of the big headlines today ahead of the opening bell will be the big jobs report

and is expected to show a fairly steady unemployment rate. On average, economists expect non-farm

payrolls of just 74,000 in August, slightly above 73,000 in July. They see the jobless rate inching up to 4.3% from 4.2% in July.

Traders will also focus on any revisions. Deutsche Bank's Jim Reed said today sees the first

of three massive days for markets in the next nine business days. The payrolls are today. The CPI is next Thursday and the

FOMC decision the following Wednesday. He goes on to say that ahead of today's start to this

run, markets have put in a strong performance over the past 24 hours. After soft data,

men investors became increasingly convinced that the Fed would cut rates this month.

Two California wildfires are back in the news, one from earlier this year and another from three years ago.

The Department of Justice filed two lawsuits against Southern California Edison.

The DOJ won $77 million in damages and accused the Edison International

Company of sparking the Eton and Fairview Wildfires. The department says repeated negligence

led to the destruction of tens of thousands of acres of federal land in the two wildfires.
