Summary
How valuable is your future 1st round pick? This is a question the Hawks and T'Wolves just answered for themselves by making blockbuster trades for win-now players and one the Lakers will need to answer as they explore their own roster construction heading into next season. It's also a question the Pelicans, Jazz, and Thunder will need to answer in their own way as they stockpile future picks in the hopes of drafting their next great player. Pete, Mike, and Darius have an open ended discussion about how to value these picks moving forward and what infrastructure the Lakers have in place to help build out a contending team while accounting for the value of future picks.

| 0:00.0 | What do you think about the Laker team now? |
| 0:03.4 | You follow the box scores of the games every day? |
| 0:06.0 | Just the Lakers. |
| 0:07.3 | You're kidding. |
| 0:08.6 | That is really a compliment. |
| 0:12.8 | I was pleased to see you smile at the top bar show because once the game starts, you have a game face. |
| 0:17.8 | You don't smile much out there. |
| 0:20.4 | I don't think you have to do things for money anymore. Correct. What's up, Laker fans? Welcome to the Laker Filmroom podcast, brought you by the Blue R podcast Network. I'm Pete, joined by Darius and Mike. And today we're going to talk a little bit of team building. This is something that's changed over the course of the last few seasons. And I always viewed the NBA in these five-year increments. |
| 0:39.5 | I feel like they kind of move from one mini era to the next. |
| 0:43.0 | And then every 10, 15 years or so, it's a full-fledged era. |
| 0:47.3 | And we've seen something. |
| 0:49.0 | We touched on this in yesterday's pod about a lot of guys going out for more and more picks, |
| 0:53.8 | Mike, Dejante Murray, Drew |
| 0:55.6 | Holiday. Rudy Gobert went for five. And so I think it speaks to just kind of a changing |
| 1:00.3 | landscape on the team building front. And so we were going to talk about that today. Set the |
| 1:05.0 | stage for us, Mike, on kind of what you're looking at. So I was looking at tagathon. And for next |
| 1:09.9 | season, 10 teams do not have their first |
| 1:13.4 | round pick. And just to go through the list. So, well, I guess it might be nine technically because |
| 1:18.8 | of the pelicans show up there, but that's just because of a pick swap. So, uh, but Lakers, calves, |
| 1:23.1 | bulls, wolves, nuggets, maves, Sixers, ics, and Bucks. And that's just for right now. And Pete, |
| 1:32.8 | you just alluded to this. Some teams have promised basically their whole draft every of the year for |
| 1:39.5 | the next several years now. And I'm always kind of thinking about this in a bigger picture and just wanted to hash this out with you. This is kind of a half-baked idea in a sense, but you've got New Orleans and you've got Oklahoma City and now you've got Utah and like they're going to keep adding to it. And now you've got San Antonio and you've got some of these teams that are basically going to be where Boston was the last several years, where they have way too many first round picks that they can actually use. |
